I do not have a lot of time to update, so I apologize for making this so brief. Grant started to complain of extreme abdominal pain on Tuesday night and it stayed that way all day on Wednesday. I checked online to see what the side effects of this new drug was that he was on for the C-Diff and it stated that abdominal pain and increased diarrhea were common. So, I called Dr. Dreyer and we stopped that drug and switched him to the oral vancomicine. The pain got a lot better and the stools slow...

UPDATE from earlier today - April 27 - 2:37 p.m.

Posted by Melanie McTaggart on Tuesday, April 27, 2010,

We are heading home in a few hours! What??? I know!!! Grant is stooling a lot less than he was yesterday and since the medicine he is on is oral, I can take care of him from home. I will just need to make sure he drinks a lot. The course of meds he is on should be completed by Saturday and hopefully by tomorrow morning he will be feeling a ton better. We will go back to clinic on Friday to check counts and possibly a blood and/or platelet transfusion. My guess is he will have an ANC of 0 and ...

I think we have finally lost our minds. Last night at 8:00 I asked the nurse to see if any of the stool cultures had come back, knowing full well that it would be too soon to show anything. Grant must have gone through no less than 20 diapers yesterday and I was really feeling desperate for an answer. Our nurse was lovely enough to look for me and guess what! The C-Diff stool results were listed as "FINAL." She quickly opened it and sure enough - Grant has C-Diff!!! I cheered and danced in th...

Well, all of Grant test came back great. His liver looked good. His heart looked good. He perked up some and so they let us go home with a lot of begging on my part. I wanted to see if getting out of the hospital would help him get some of his energy back. So late on Friday, after getting all the good results back from the zillion tests they ran, we got to go home.

On Saturday morning, Grant did not want to eat, but he did want to play with his sister upstairs - some. At lunch, David and I too...

Okay - where did I leave off? Grant was throwing up once a day through Saturday. We did get admitted on Monday and started Chemo. This is the first time since last Aug that Grant got a full dose of Methotrexate in his spine. So, needless to say, we have been a little nervous about that.

On Monday, we discovered that Grant's liver enzymes were elevated. That is usually not a big deal, but they were more concerned since we were further out from that last hospital chemo and it should not have bee...

What a week it has been! On Tuesday night last week, Grant started to throw up and then had it going the other way. I took him to his usual checkup on Wednesday, and Grant was very tired. He would not eat, drink, or talk to anyone. Dr. Dreyer was really worried and decided to admit him. While we were waiting for his room, they hooked him up to IV fluids. Grant perked up. So, after we had signed all the paperwork to be admitted, Dr. Dreyer decided that she thought we would be okay to head on h...

I hope you all have had a wonderful Easter and extended weekend. We sure did. And boy was it busy! Claire did not have school on Thursday, so she came with me to get Grant's counts checked. They appeared to be on the way up - so of course we were thrilled - especially since we would be around so many people over the weekend.

On Friday we just cleaned up the house and waited for Shadlee and Dave to arrive. We enjoyed a lovely meal with them and David's brother Mike that night at Raffa's on the ...

I just finished my 2009 Family photo album. What a chore. I have included it on my Pictures page if you want to look through it and revisit the year we had in 2009. It is hard to look at the "before" pictures, but in putting this together, I realized how much fun we managed to have.

Grant is still cancer free and the last test for the PH+ came back negative as well! He is doing remarkably well. He now weighs 30 pounds!!! I can't even believe it!!!!

We will be spending the next few days celebrat...
