We got to come home on Sunday afternoon. Grant's ANC jumped from 0 to 390 on Saturday and then to 4000 on Sunday! Crazy!!! We raced out of there and went out to eat at Grant's favorite Mexican restaurant.

I am taking him to clinic today for counts. I think he will need platelets today. If his ANC is still good, we are planning on taking Claire and Grant to the movies tonight. Grant has not been to a movie in forever! I hope it works out.

On Friday he will go back in for a check up. Hopefully h...

Well, his counts came up! His ANC is now 390! That is a huge jump from 0. And we think it will be in the thousands by tomorrow. He needs another blood and platelet transfusion today. I have n ot seen the doctors yet, but I am going to beg that they check his counts again this afternoon and if they have gone up some more that they let us leave tonight. I doubt they will go for it, but you never know. It is worth a shot!

I'll keep you posted!

Whoever came up with the saying, "the luck of the Irish," clearly never met an Irishman. I though we were getting "lucky" this time and escaped fever for once. Then this morning at 4:00 a.m. Grant woke up with a fever of 102.6. So, to the ER we raced. When we got here, Grant no longer had fever. (At least not what they count as fever - 101). So, you would think we could go home right? No, we had to wait almost 7 hours to get his ANC back (ability to fight infection) and of course it was 0. So...

Sorry I did not update this on Monday. Have you ever had the feeling that if you say things are going well, that they will take a turn for the worse? Well, that is how I have felt, and still do, since we left the hospital. I will say this. Grant is acting great and is acting strong. His counts are ridiculously low though. His ANC (ability to fight infection) was almost 0 today, as I expected. I hated even taking him up there today for fear that he may get sick and spike a fever just being up ...

It has been a wonderfully strange week here at the hospital. Here I am, stuck in a hospital room that has become all too familiar with a sweet three-year old boy who is getting a very harsh chemo, and he is in the best spirits that I have seen him in since he was diagnosed. Tonight was just so good. My dad brought Claire up here this evening (thanks dad!!!) and when David arrived we ate dinner together as a family. Even though it was "here", it was so nice to just be together. After dinner, w...

Today was another good day. Grant is so sure of himself and is not only flirting with the nurses, but is now singing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" in the halls. He is being so funny!

Claire and Minima came up for a visit today. It was so good to see them both. Grant always enjoys seeing his sister!

Not much to report on the chemo front. He is handling this so well, so far. And all his "Cancer Friends" happen to be inpatient as well, so he is enjoying spending time with them. Presley, the 12-yr...

We had a lovely weekend at home, just the four of us! On Friday, I picked Claire up early from school and we had a "girls only" afternoon. I had Jordan come over to baby-sit Grant. We had a great time! I took her to get her nails done, to pick out a new dress and then to have her hair done. On Saturday, David and I took the kids to the zoo and enjoyed the lovely weather. And then that afternoon, we all took a nice long nap! On Saturday night, we braved the chilled weather and sat outside at ...

His blood culture came back negative and his counts are stable. He still has very little ability to fight an infection, but it should be going up any second. So, we are just waiting on discharge papers and will be heading home in the next half hour. I am getting ready to go load up the car now!!! Yeah!!!

We will be back at clinic tomorrow for counts. I'll update more later.

GREAT CANCER DAY!!! Grant actually is starting to walk ALL ON HIS OWN!!!! We were in the playroom this afternoon doing a PT game I made up, that he loves, called "Sorry PT" when he decided he wanted to get a different toy and walked by himself to get it! Since November, Grant has made attempts to walk without holding on to me, but he has not taken more than a few steps and then either grabs me or falls. Today was different. He had confidence in himself and was ready to do it. He is also more ...

No blasts this morning!!! Yeah!!! Grant is doing well this morning. We are about to go and do some PT and are still waiting to see the Dr.s. I am going to beg to go home today, but I doubt they will let us go. They usually want you to have 48 hrs with a negative blood culture before they will let you go. But I am glad he is doing better. And his counts are coming up too. He is still at risk for infection, but hopefully that won't be much longer.

I will update more later. Grant is getting un-ho...

Well, I spoke too soon. Grant spiked a fever of 101.7 at 3 a.m. today. So, we have been admitted - and are very tired. Grant's counts slipped even further, but there are signs of recovery. Grant has been in wonderful spirits all day and does not seem sick at all. David took Claire to school this morning and then to ballet. I wish I were not in here so I could be there taking of him too. He is not supposed to drive and was ordered to "take it easier" last night by his surgeon. So much for that...

His personality is really coming through. We just got back from clinic and his ability to fight infection is still VERY low, but all the other numbers looked good.
