Pray for Grant

Dec. 18, 2012 - Grant loses his first tooth!

Posted by Melanie McTaggart on Wednesday, December 19, 2012

It has been at least 2 years since "Stephy," Claire's tooth fairy first paid a visit to our home. Well, Stephy's best friend, "Meredith” is Grant's tooth fairy and is making her first visit to our home tonight - this time for Grant!

Grant lost his first tooth before school this morning. He was elated! Today was also his big Christmas Program day and he got to sing 5 songs and wear a Christmas shirt during his program. In the life of a Kindergartner - this is a huge deal!

I have to say, this was a bitter sweet day for David and me. Today, our kid hit a major kid milestone. One we were not sure we would ever hit three years ago. For that we are so grateful. But losing a tooth also means our baby is no longer a baby. It is such a happy and sad day for us.

Grant and Claire are currently curled up together in the guest bedroom - something they have done since Grant has been permanently home. I can't get them to sleep in their own rooms. This is a battle I choose not to fight. I figure Claire and Grant had 18 months apart and they are just making up for lost time. I don't think either of them will graduate from high school sleeping in the same bed. But, this situation brings a new challenge. Tonight, I have to make sure BOTH kids are sound asleep before I creep into the room to take the letter Grant wrote his tooth fairy and replace it with a letter FROM his tooth fairy - along with money and pixy dust across his face.

Tonight is a great night. I feel so blessed to be able to have this moment with him - for him - especially in light of all the kindergartners and 1st graders whose lives were taken too early in Newtown, CT last Friday. May God Bless those taken too soon, their families, and the town.
